Transformative Justice values call on us to deepen the ways we honor our interdependence. Civic engagement is one way we can do that. In this collection of resources, we explore why democratic practices like civic engagement are vital to healing sexual assault and how coalitions can teach these practices and habits. We also look at how coalitions are working with survivors and communities to create collective healing and change through civic engagement.
We organized these publications into three pieces. The first piece explores how civic engagement strengthens core tenets of sexual assault advocacy and addresses one of many ways oppression shows up in our work. The second piece tells stories from coalition peers. And the third piece links to further resources and readings.
Woven throughout all three parts is a belief in the power of collective action and community care. If you have a story from your coalition civic engagement work to share, please reach out to our Publications Specialist, Norio Umezu Hall at norio@iowacasa.org.
