The Resource Sharing Project and the National Network to End Domestic Violence, in partnership, created an online board orientation course that provides introductory, core training tools for coalitions and local programs to use with board members, executive directors, and agency staff about non-profit governance.
This program consists of several sections that introduce foundational aspects of non-profit and coalition work and present essential board functions, responsibilities, and duties. These modules can be accessed individually and out of sequence and are designed to supplement a board orientation specific to your organization.
A few things to know before beginning the course:
This course talks. There is a narrator that can be muted if the learner chooses or can be listened to for the more audio-inclined learner. We wanted to try to enhance the course’s ability to respond to more learning styles.
Each section of the course ends with a small comprehension quiz; however, you do not need to pass to advance in the course. It is for the learner to note their own comprehension. Correct answers are provided to the learner should they enter any incorrect responses.
There is no certificate provided to the learner upon the completion of sections or the entire course. The learner should follow their agency policies for documenting ongoing training and orientation.
The course will begin automatically playing when entered. Volume and pause buttons are on the lower left of the course screen. Use the zoom tool in your internet browser to increase the size of the screen. Attached you can find instructions on increasing the size in your browser.
As always, both the RSP and NNEDV are skilled at, and available to, provide additional board training for state and territorial coalitions. This will not take the place of needed in-person training and technical assistance we can provide.
