The PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) Advocacy Coordinator is responsible for providing advocacy to survivors of sexual assault who are incarcerated within the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) through in-person visits, support groups, postal mail, and email. Additional duties will include creating and distributing informational materials for incarcerated survivors; overseeing hotline activities, and responding to requests for information from survivors; supervising contracted advocates to assist in answering the hotline calls from survivors who are incarcerated; and providing training for NDCS staff, members of domestic violence/sexual assault programs staff, and contracted hotline advocates. The work of the PREA Advocacy Coordinator is based upon a strong anti-oppression framework, incorporating primary prevention strategies, grass-roots activism, cultural humility, social change, and social justice into all efforts.

However, they must adhere to the NDCS policies, which require that formerly incarcerated individuals be released at least 18 months from the correctional system before working within detention centers.

Salary: $50,000
Principal Duties:
- Maintain Access to Supportive Services for Survivors of Sexual Assault who are Incarcerated
- Develop and distribute informational materials for survivors of sexual assault who are incarcerated as well as public awareness materials for statewide distribution
- Coordinate a statewide hotline for survivors of sexual assault who are incarcerated, and respond to requests for confidential advocacy
- Provide advocacy for survivors of sexual assault who are incarcerated in the ten facilities of Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) through postal mail, email, in-person visits and support group
- Assist local programs in identifying systematic improvements to ensure survivors of sexual assault in detention facilities can safely access resources
- Provide training for member program staff, hotline line advocates, and NDCS staff
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience in grassroots organizing and social change work, with an in depth understanding of primary prevention through a strong anti-oppression lens.
- Demonstrated knowledge of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and stalking issues and experience working with survivors.
- Experience working with individuals who have been incarcerated is preferred, but not required.
- Background checks will be completed. Applicants must be able to pass the security checks for the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
- This position involves multiple and diverse duties: direct services to survivors, oversight of service delivery, policy development, creating and delivering training and statewide leadership. Travel both inside and outside of the state will be required.
